2006 Sierra 2500/3500 with the Duramax LLY & LBZ 6.6L. When it comes to boosting horsepower and torque on any powerplant, gas or diesel, the secret to power is improving engine efficiencies such as air flow, fuel delivery and exhaust flow. That's exactly what GM has done on the new generation of Duramax diesel engines. For `06 horsepower and torque on the "LLY" version is up to 310 horsepower, and 605lb/ft of torque, while GM's new high-output Duramax "LBZ" version is cranking out a whopping 360 horsepower and 650 lb/ft of torque. Where did the new-found power come from? An all-new intake and air filter system, improved cylinder head design, upgraded fuel injection and sophisticated engine management system that controls a variable-vane turbocharger.
Did GM leave anything on the table in terms of more horsepower and torque? You bet. In order to take full advantage of the increased power and efficiencies the new Duramax powerplant has to offer, AIRAID Filter Company went back to the computer-aided drawing board to develop an all-new Cool Air Dam Intake System for the new generation Duramax 6.6-liter LLY and LBZ Turbo Diesel engines.
The end result is a bolt-on, hassle-free system that's designed to handle the harsh environments that diesel engines operate in and increase horsepower, torque and improve driveability. Since the key to quicker throttle response and improved horsepower and torque is air flow, the heart of the new AIRAID Duramax Intake System is a huge 1600 cfm AIRAID Premium SynthaFlow™ series filter that is isolated from engine and turbo heat by a computer-designed Cool Air Dam. The AIRAID intake takes advantage of GM's upgraded intake plumbing by utilizing a specially designed 4.5-inch intake tube constructed from cross-linked polyethylene for improved air flow, heat resistance and proper mass air sensor location.
In terms of filtration, all AIRAID SynthaFlow™ premium filters are a specially-blended combination of gauze and synthetic layers that consistently filter down to two microns, providing superior protection from dust ingestion at no extra cost. The filters are also handpoured with urethane instead of rubber to prevent cracking and shrinkage in the extreme conditions found under the hood of a turbocharged engine.
